Daisuke Ohata - World Record Holder

World Record Holder

On May 14, 2006 Ohata scored three tries for Japan against Georgia at Hanazono Stadium, in doing so claiming the world record for tries in Rugby test matches. This gave him 65 tries for his country in 55 tests; he has since extended his record to 69 tries from 58 tests. The record was previously held by David Campese of Australia, who scored 64 tries from 101 tests. Unlike Campese however, only a quarter of Ohata's tries were scored against major rugby union playing nations, so the validity of holding such a record must be called into question. Ohata did not take part in the Rugby World Cup 2007 as he ruptured his left Achilles tendon in an August practice match against Portugal. He had only just returned that month to the national side, having recovered from a right Achilles tendon rupture in January.

Famous quotes containing the words world and/or record:

Imperious Caesar, dead and turned to clay,
Might stop a hole to keep the wind away.
O that that earth which kept the world in awe
Should patch a wall t’expel the winter’s flaw!
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

When our kids are young, many of us rush out to buy a cute little baby book to record the meaningful events of our young child’s life...But I’ve often thought there should be a second book, one with room to record the moral milestones of our child’s lives. There might be space to record dates she first shared or showed compassion or befriended a new student or thought of sending Grandma a get-well card or told the truth despite its cost.
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)
