Former Minister of Health, Tore Tønne, committed suicide allegedly following Dagbladet's investigations over alleged economic improprieties committed after the conclusion of his term in the Norwegian cabinet. Dagbladet was criticized by The Norwegian Press Association. Dagbladet reprinted the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten's 12 Muhammad Cartoons in 2005.

In May 2011 Dagbladet lost a libel case against ambulance driver Erik Schjenken for printing factual errors about the Ali Farah case and had to pay him a compensation of 1 million NOK.

Famous quotes containing the word criticism:

Nothing would improve newspaper criticism so much as the knowledge that it was to be read by men too hardy to acquiesce in the authoritative statement of the reviewer.
    Richard Holt Hutton (1826–1897)

The visual is sorely undervalued in modern scholarship. Art history has attained only a fraction of the conceptual sophistication of literary criticism.... Drunk with self-love, criticism has hugely overestimated the centrality of language to western culture. It has failed to see the electrifying sign language of images.
    Camille Paglia (b. 1947)

A bad short story or novel or poem leaves one comparatively calm because it does not exist, unless it gets a fake prestige through being mistaken for good work. It is essentially negative, it is something that has not come through. But over bad criticism one has a sense of real calamity.
    Rebecca West (1892–1983)
