Way of Life
Angola was ruled by Portugal and both countries share many cultural aspects, including language and main religious roots (Roman Catholic Christianity). However, the Angolan culture derives mostly from native Bantu and several other African tribes/ethnic groups which were mixed with Portuguese culture from the 16th century to the 20th century. After independence in 1975, thousands of ethnic Portuguese left Angola and the country's African cultural heritage increased. Although existing similarities due to Angola's former status as a Portuguese territory for over four centuries, current Angolan and Portuguese cultures and lifestyles are very different.

Famous quotes containing the word life:
“The light of memory, or rather the light that memory lends to things, is the palest light of all.... I am not quite sure whether I am dreaming or remembering, whether I have lived my life or dreamed it. Just as dreams do, memory makes me profoundly aware of the unreality, the evanescence of the world, a fleeting image in the moving water.”
—Eugène Ionesco (b. 1912)
