Crofton Pumping Station is a pumping station near the village of Great Bedwyn in the English county of Wiltshire: it supplies the summit pound of the Kennet and Avon Canal with water.
The original steam-powered pumping station is preserved and still operates on selected weekends. It contains one of the oldest operational Cornish engines in the world, dating from 1812, which is claimed to be the "Oldest working beam engine in the world still in its original engine house and capable of actually doing the job for which it was installed."

Famous quotes containing the words pumping and/or station:
“It is by teaching that we teach ourselves, by relating that we observe, by affirming that we examine, by showing that we look, by writing that we think, by pumping that we draw water into the well.”
—Henri-Frédéric Amiel (18211881)
“Say first, of God above, or Man below,
What can we reason, but from what we know?
Of Man what see we, but his station here,
From which to reason, or to which refer?
Thro worlds unnumberd tho the God be known,
Tis ours to trace him only in our own.
”
—Alexander Pope (16881744)
