As of April 15, 2010 (2010 -04-15), President Barack Obama directed NASA Administrator Charles Bolden to immediately begin developing a rescue vehicle using the Orion technology.
But this idea never came to fruition, the Orion spacecraft is once again intended to only serve as a beyond low Earth orbit manned spacecraft.
