Crenshaw Corridor (Los Angeles Metro)

Crenshaw Corridor (Los Angeles Metro)

The Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor is a mass-transit project to construct a new light-rail corridor through southwest Los Angeles. The corridor will run generally north-south and will connect the Crenshaw District and Leimert Park to Inglewood and LAX. The corridor will be a part of the Los Angeles County Metro Rail System.

When completed, the Crenshaw corridor will be served by the Metro Crenshaw Line, which will run from the Jefferson Park in the north to Redondo Beach in the south. Also, the Metro Green Line will use a portion of the corridor near LAX for its northern extension.

The project is being planned by Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro). The project has been given high priority by Metro in its long-range plan, and has funding set aside in Measure R.

The Final EIR was certified on 22 September 2011. FTA approval to build the $1.72 billion 8.5-mile (13.7 km) line was given in January 2012. Metro began construction in July 2012 with initial revenue service beginning between 2016 and 2018.

Famous quotes containing the words crenshaw, corridor and/or angeles:

Nonwhite and working-class women, if they are ever to identify with the organized women’s movement, must see their own diverse experiences reflected in the practice and policy statements of these predominantly white middle-class groups.
    —Kimberly Crenshaw (b. 1959)

And now in one hour’s time I’ll be out there again. I’ll raise my eyes and look down that corridor four feet wide with ten lonely seconds to justify my whole existence.
    Colin Welland (b. 1934)

Prejudices are useless. Call Los Angeles any dirty name you like—Six Suburbs in Search of a City, Paradise with a Lobotomy, anything—but the fact remains that you are already living in it before you get there.
    Clive James (b. 1939)
