Cream (colour)

Cream (colour)

Cream is not the colour of the cream produced by cattle grazing on natural pasture with plants rich in yellow carotenoid pigments, some of which are incorporated into the light, to give a yellow tone to white. Cream is the pastel colour of yellow, much like as pink is to red. By mixing yellow and white, cream can be produced.

The first recorded use of cream as a colour name in English was in 1590.

Famous quotes containing the word cream:

After a few months’ acquaintance with European “coffee,” one’s mind weakens, and his faith with it, and he begins to wonder if the rich beverage of home, with its clotted layer of yellow cream on top of it, is not a mere dream after all, and a thing which never existed.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)
