County Fermanagh ( /fərˈmænə/; from Irish: Fir Manach or Fear Manach, meaning "men of Manach") is one of the six counties of Northern Ireland and one of the thirty-two traditional counties of Ireland. It is within the historical province of Ulster.
The county is mainly rural and is dominated by two connected lakes: Upper and Lower Lough Erne. It covers a land area of 1,700 km² (656 sq; mi) and a total area (including water) of 1,851 km² (715 sq; mi), with a population of about 57,527. The biggest settlement is the county town of Enniskillen, in the middle of the county.
Fermanagh is one of four counties of Northern Ireland presently to have a majority of the population from a Catholic background, according to the 2001 census.
