Organization
The current Chairman of the CEA is Alan Krueger, who was appointed by President Obama on August 29, 2011. Dr. Krueger is a former professor at Princeton University. The two current Members of the CEA are Katharine Abraham, who was confirmed on April 14, 2011., and Carl Shapiro who was also confirmed in April, 2011. The previous two Chairs, Austan Goolsbee and Christina Romer, resigned their posts in August 2011 and September 2010, respectively to return to positions in academia.
The council's three members are nominated by the president and approved by the United States Senate. The staff of the council includes about 20 academic economists, plus three permanent economic statisticians.
