Costanera Center

Costanera Center is an ongoing development and construction of four skyscrapers being built in Santiago, Chile by Cencosud. The tallest of the four buildings Gran Torre Santiago, designed by architect César Pelli, will be 300 metres (980 ft) tall, making it the tallest building in South America when completed and second tallest in the Southern Hemisphere. This is only behind Australia's Q1 on the Gold Coast at 322 m tall. Two other buildings will be 170 m high and a fourth one will be smaller.

Construction was put on hold in January 2009 as a consequence of the late 2000s recession, as the developers were concerned that they would not be able to find tenants if completed by the originally proposed date. After the recession was reaching its end, Cencosud announced the construction would resume on December 16, 2009.

The building restarted the construction process by the end of 2010. On February 1, 2012 the main building of the complex reached the 300 meters tall, when a vine was placed at the peak of the structure, becoming the tallest building in South and Latin America.
