Corpse Paint

Corpse paint or corpsepaint is a style of black-and-white makeup, used mainly by black metal bands during live concerts and photo shoots. The makeup is used to make the musicians appear inhuman, corpse-like, or demonic.

Corpse paint involves making the face and neck white and making the area around the eyes and lips black. Sometimes it is mixed with real or fake blood. Musicians will often have a 'trademark' style. Other colors are seldom used; Attila Csihar of Mayhem uses neon colors, while the Norwegian band Dødheimsgard has experimented using other colors.

Famous quotes containing the words corpse and/or paint:

    the horsemen came
Again, all but the leader: it was night
Momently and I feared: eleven same
    Jesus-Christers unmembered and unmade,
Whose Corpse had died again in dirty shame.
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)

My bad head cannot adjust itself to the way things are.... If I want to depict spring, it has to be in wintertime; if I want to describe a beautiful landscape, I must be enclosed within walls; and I have said a hundred times that if I were put in the Bastille, there I would paint a picture of liberty.
    Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712–1778)
