Cornell 100+ MPG Team - Technology

Technology

The team's final submission car will be a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). This technology will allow the car to act as a pure electric vehicle for a range of 40–50 miles on a full battery charge. When this battery power runs low, the car will be capable of recharging while in motion, using a small gasoline-powered onboard generator. The vehicle will also be capable of recharging, while stationary, from an outlet connected to the electricity grid.

The final entry is a series diesel hybrid, a car that will only use the power from the electric motor for propulsion. The combustion engine, a 1.4L Volkswagen motor, will only be used to generate power and recharge the batteries, which will then give power to the electric motor to drive the car. The vehicle will also feature a very aerodynamic, low drag design.

The Cornell 100+ MPG Team is competing in the mainstream class of the competition, which requires that the final submission be a 4-wheel, 4-passenger design.

Famous quotes containing the word technology:

Radio put technology into storytelling and made it sick. TV killed it. Then you were locked into somebody else’s sighting of that story. You no longer had the benefit of making that picture for yourself, using your imagination. Storytelling brings back that humanness that we have lost with TV. You talk to children and they don’t hear you. They are television addicts. Mamas bring them home from the hospital and drag them up in front of the set and the great stare-out begins.
