Cooking With Alcohol - Alcohol As Cooking Fuel

Alcohol As Cooking Fuel

Alcohol stoves became popular on boats as an alternative to dangerous kerosene stoves. Although denatured alcohol is more expensive than other fuels, and puts out less heat, it is often preferred as a marine stove for safety reasons. Alcohol stoves have also become popular as camp stoves because alcohol is environmentally friendly to burn.

A beverage-can stove is an example of a very lightweight alcohol stove for camping.

Famous quotes containing the words alcohol, cooking and/or fuel:

No power on earth or above the bottomless pit has such influence to terrorize and make cowards of men as the liquor power. Satan could not have fallen on a more potent instrument with which to thrall the world. Alcohol is king!
    Eliza “Mother” Stewart (1816–c. 1908)

If cooking becomes an art form rather than a means of providing a reasonable diet, then something is clearly wrong.
    Tom Jaine (b. 1943)

I had an old axe which nobody claimed, with which by spells in winter days, on the sunny side of the house, I played about the stumps which I had got out of my bean-field. As my driver prophesied when I was plowing, they warmed me twice,—once while I was splitting them, and again when they were on the fire, so that no fuel could give out more heat. As for the axe,... if it was dull, it was at least hung true.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
