Amendments
Amendments proposed by President Chávez and parliament were twice decided in referendums:
- Venezuelan constitutional referendum, 2007 – wide-ranging amendments were very narrowly rejected;
- Venezuelan constitutional referendum, 2009 – abolition of term limits for various public offices (including president; a proposal to abolish his term limits was present also in 2007 amendments) was narrowly approved.

Famous quotes containing the word amendments:
“Both of us felt more anxiety about the Southabout the colored people especiallythan about anything else sinister in the result. My hope of a sound currency will somehow be realized; civil service reform will be delayed; but the great injury is in the South. There the Amendments will be nullified, disorder will continue, prosperity to both whites and colored people will be pushed off for years.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
