Conspiracy No. 5 - Music and Lyrics

Music and Lyrics

Most of the songs on Conspiracy No. 5 started as instrumental piece and then lyrics was added in the process of the sessions. The Music was an attempt to produce a more heavy straightforward hard rock grunge sound of the nineties. The talents of Sam Taylor who produced the album has a big part on the overall sound and outcome.

The album started with the song "Peace" which defines the benefits of what God can give you if you let Him take full control of your life. "You Make Me Mad" is a song written specifically to all the songs swarming the radio, giving influences on peoples emotions and thoughts that caused them to act differently, in the songs case, it'll make you mad. The third song "How's Your Head" was probably the first song written by Mac for his wife Aimee to be ever recorded on a Third Day album. It talks about the distance they have to deal when the band is away on tour. Mark Lee co-wrote the lyrics for "Alien" together with Mac. "I Deserve?" and "Have Mercy" goes hand in hand with how we don't deserve God's mercy and grace but He still gives it out to us freely and unconditionally.

The song "My Hope Is You" is probably the most requested worship song on this record, which the band still plays on their concerts. It is a crowd favorite. "More To This" talks about the true meaning of life if you cling and look and fix our eyes on Jesus.

"This Song Was Meant For You" is a very sad song that talks about a relationship that have to end. A very tragic song written by Mac. "Who I Am" talks about God's love for us even if he knows what we have done that never pleases Him. It has the same theme to the songs "Gomer's Theme" and "Your Love Endures". The song "Give Me A Reason" talks about how at times we don't understand why we do things that never pleases God and gives us the answer through His Word.

Eventhough the title deals with Conspiracy as well as the images on the inlay, the songs were not inspired by those conspiracy theories.

I used to be angry all the time and I’d sit there weaving my anger. Now I’m not angry. I sit there hearing the sounds outside, the sounds in the room, the sounds of the treadles and heddles—a music of my own making.
