Communist Party of The Memel Territory

Communist Party of the Memel Territory (German: Kommunistische Partei des Memelgebietes) was a communist organisation in the Memel Territory in the 1920s. In the 1927 election, the party got 3900 votes (7.2%) and won two seats in the parliament of the territory. Little is known about the group, and its relations with the German and Lithuanian communist parties. Soviet historical research says very little about the group, and on the rare occasions that communist activities in the Memel Territories were mention it claimed that the activities had been under influence of the Communist Party of Lithuania.

Famous quotes containing the words communist, party and/or territory:

The terrible thing is that one cannot be a Communist and not let oneself in for the shameful act of recantation. One cannot be a Communist and preserve an iota of one’s personal integrity.
    Milovan Djilas (b. 1911)

We are in a period when old questions are settled and the new are not yet brought forward. Extreme party action, if continued in such a time, would ruin the party. Moderation is its only chance. The party out of power gains by all partisan conduct of those in power.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

A Country is not a mere territory; the particular territory is only its foundation. The Country is the idea which rises upon that foundation; it is the sentiment of love, the sense of fellowship which binds together all the sons of that territory.
    Giuseppe Mazzini (1805–1872)
