Distribution and Habitat
The range of the Colares stingray appears restricted to the mouth of the Amazon River in northern Brazil, in the estuarine area affected by the river's freshwater discharge; it may also occur in adjacent areas as far as Venezuela. Found to a depth of 6 m (20 ft), this species conducts annual movements that are influenced by salinity: in the dry season it is found in the coastal bays such as Marajó, while in the rainy season it leaves the bays and shifts offshore.

Famous quotes containing the words distribution and/or habitat:
“There is the illusion of time, which is very deep; who has disposed of it? Mor come to the conviction that what seems the succession of thought is only the distribution of wholes into causal series.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Neither moral relations nor the moral law can swing in vacuo. Their only habitat can be a mind which feels them; and no world composed of merely physical facts can possibly be a world to which ethical propositions apply.”
—William James (18421910)
