On November 11, 2009 the new stadium opened its doors hosting a friendly match between Santos Laguna and Santos F.C., of the Brazilian Série A. The sold out crowd included Mexican President, Felipe Calderón, and Brazilian legend, Pelé. Santos Laguna won 2–1.
