Client-server Protocol - Example

Example

When a bank customer accesses online banking services with a web browser (the client), she initiates a request to the bank's web server. Since the customer's login credentials are stored in a database, the application server runs a program that accesses a database server. This database server may, in turn, request bank records of another database server. An application server interprets the returned data by following the bank's business logic, and provides the output to the web server. Each server acts as a client when it submits data in a request to another server for processing. In each step of this sequence of client-server exchanges, a computer processes a request and returns data. When all the requests are met, the sequence is complete and the web browser displays the data to the customer.

Famous quotes containing the word example:

Our intellect is not the most subtle, the most powerful, the most appropriate, instrument for revealing the truth. It is life that, little by little, example by example, permits us to see that what is most important to our heart, or to our mind, is learned not by reasoning but through other agencies. Then it is that the intellect, observing their superiority, abdicates its control to them upon reasoned grounds and agrees to become their collaborator and lackey.
    Marcel Proust (1871–1922)
