Gates Foundation Involvement
Heights High School recently became a pilot school for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Small schools movement. Heights has divided itself into what used to be five and now four small schools designed to improve student achievement based on an individual's learning style. The five schools at Heights are:
- Legacy
- Mosaic Experience
- R.E.A.L.
- Renaissance
- P.R.I.D.E was removed after the 2010-2011 school year
Much controversy among the student population and teachers as well has risen around the implementation of Small Schools at Heights as well as how they have been run.

Famous quotes containing the words gates, foundation and/or involvement:
“Now, from the Gates of Hercules we flood
Westward, westward till the barbarous brine
Whelms us to the tired land where tasseling corn,
Fat beans, grapes sweeter than muscadine
Rot on the vine: in that land were we born.”
—Allen Tate (1899–1979)
“Whenever any form of government shall become destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, & to institute new government, laying it’s foundation on such principles & organising it’s powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety & happiness.”
—Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)
“The glorious dream of full father involvement in infant care will not become a widespread reality overnight. But it can happen, and it eventually will happen,... A lot of progress may take place in a short period of time if we just lighten up, step back, and give the guys a decent chance.”
—Michael K. Meyerhoff (20th century)
