City Year - The Uniform

The Uniform

City Year corps members wear a distinctive uniform, issued by the organization - a red bomber jacket worn with khaki pants and Timberland boots. Two City Year sites, San José/Silicon Valley and Los Angeles, wear yellow bomber jackets. This is because red is a charged color in the communities in which they serve.

The high-visibility jacket and distinctive boots have become synonymous with the organization, whether in schools or throughout the surrounding communities.

The uniform ensures that corps members are easily recognizable as members and representatives of City Year, helping to ensure continuity from year to year.

Famous quotes containing the word uniform:

The sugar maple is remarkable for its clean ankle. The groves of these trees looked like vast forest sheds, their branches stopping short at a uniform height, four or five feet from the ground, like eaves, as if they had been trimmed by art, so that you could look under and through the whole grove with its leafy canopy, as under a tent whose curtain is raised.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

An accent mark, perhaps, instead of a whole western accent—a point of punctuation rather than a uniform twang. That is how it should be worn: as a quiet point of character reference, an apt phrase of sartorial allusion—macho, sotto voce.
    Phil Patton (b. 1953)
