Citizens Advice Bureau - Work

Work

A lot of the Citizens Advice service's work involves providing advice on issues such as debt management and welfare benefits, housing, immigration and asylum, employment, consumer complaints and landlord/tenant disputes. Advice is available in the bureaux, but also in community venues, in people's homes, by phone, by email and at www.adviceguide.org.uk.

The Citizens Advice service, both locally and nationally, also uses clients' problems as evidence to influence policy makers to review laws or administrative practices which cause undue difficulties to clients, in a process referred to as "Social Policy".

Famous quotes containing the word work:

Women of all classes are awakening to the necessity of self-support, but few are willing to do the ordinary useful work for which they are fitted.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902)

And now my work is done, which neither the anger of
Jove, nor fire, nor sword, nor the gnawing tooth of time
shall ever be able to undo.... Wherever Rome’s power
extends over the conquered world, I shall have mention
    on men’s lips.
    Ovid (Publius Ovidius Naso)

As long as the “woman’s work” that some men do is socially devalued, as long as it is defined as woman’s work, as long as it’s tacked onto a “regular” work day, men who share it are likely to develop the same jagged mouth and frazzled hair as the coffee-mug mom. The image of the new man is like the image of the supermom: it obscures the strain.
    Arlie Hochschild (20th century)
