Career
In 1979, he moved to Europe, where he made performances of MPB and Bossa Nova throughout several countries.
In 1981, back to Brazil, he joined Branco Mello, Marcelo Fromer, Arnaldo Antunes, Tony Bellotto, Paulo Miklos, Sérgio Britto and Nando Reis to form the Titãs do Iê-Iê (whose name would be later shortened only to "Titãs"). They performed in several different places, but their official debut was on October 15, 1982, at SESC Pompeia. While at Titãs, Ciro wrote some of the band's most famous songs, such as "Sonífera Ilha", "Toda Cor", "Babi Índio" and "Homem Primata".
He left Titãs in 1983, due to creative divergences with André Jung, and formed in 1986 a post-punk music band named Cabine C, in which he served as the lead vocalist and guitarist. The band released only one album, named Fósforos de Oxford ("Matches from Oxford"), disbanding one year after its foundation.
In the early 1990s, he was the bandleader of another group: CPSP ("Ciro Pessoa e Seu Pessoal", Portuguese for "Ciro Pessoa and His Personnel"). They have not released any album, but performed several times in many Brazilian cities.
In 2002, the CD Eu e Meu Guarda-Chuva (Me and My Umbrella) was released, containing 11 tracks composed with Branco Mello in 1985. Eu e Meu Guarda-Chuva would later be transformed into a children's book and into a film in 2010.
As a journalist from Editora Abril, he earned prizes with the articles "Pela Estrada Adentro" (2002) and "Cem Viagens de Sonhos". He also writes for the magazines Playboy and Revista VIP, signed by his Dharmic name Tenzin Chöpel, and has a blog on the Internet where he posts his articles and some poetry under the pen name "Mantraman".
In 2003, he released his first solo album, called No Meio da Chuva Eu Grito "Help" ("In the Middle of the Rain I Shout Out for Help"), with 11 tracks produced by Apollo 9 and released by the Brazilian branch of British record label Voiceprint Records.
In 2010, he released his second solo album, Em Dia com a Rebeldia (Up to Date with the Rebeliousness), also produced by Apollo 9. According to him, it was a tribute to the 1960s psychedelic rock and to his then-girlfriend, Carolina Vicentim, whom he nicknamed "Rebeldia" (Rebeliousness).
As of 2010 he is the frontman of the band Nu Descendo a Escada, which also includes Kim Kehl (guitar), Caleb Luporini (keyboards), Luiz Domingues (bass) and Paulo Pires (drums and percussion).
Pessoa also wrote many tracks for band Ira!, such as "Efeito Bumerangue", "Tantas Nuvens", "A Natureza Sobre Nós", "Nada Além", "Mistério" and "Correnteza".
