Cinema Of Nepal
Nepal does not have a very long movie history but the industry has its own place in the cultural heritage of the country. Most Nepali movies use Bollywood-style songs and narrative and are shot on 16-millimeter film. In industry parlance, Kathmandu, the capital and center of the Nepali-language film industry, is called Kollywood (or Kaliwood as an alternate spelling) within Nepal (not to be confused with India's Tamil-language film industry, Kollywood, based in Chennai). Most recently, it is often referred to as Nepali Chalchitra (which translates to Nepali Movies in English.)

Famous quotes containing the word cinema:
“Compare ... the cinema with theatre. Both are dramatic arts. Theatre brings actors before a public and every night during the season they re-enact the same drama. Deep in the nature of theatre is a sense of ritual. The cinema, by contrast, transports its audience individually, singly, out of the theatre towards the unknown.”
—John Berger (b. 1926)
