Famous quotes containing the words chronic, pain and/or syndrome:

Or would interior time, that could delay
The sentence chronic with the last assize,
Start running backwards with its timely lies,
I might have time to live the love I say....
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)

I cannot choose [to kill Caligula] because, aside from the pain I am suffering, I suffer too from his pain. My problem is that I understand everything.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

Women are taught that their main goal in life is to serve others—first men, and later, children. This prescription leads to enormous problems, for it is supposed to be carried out as if women did not have needs of their own, as if one could serve others without simultaneously attending to one’s own interests and desires. Carried to its “perfection,” it produces the martyr syndrome or the smothering wife and mother.
    Jean Baker Miller (20th century)
