Chrissie Wellington - Awards and Honours

Awards and Honours

At an awards ceremony on 23 November 2009, following a four-week online public vote, Chrissie Wellington was announced winner of the 2009 Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year. In the Queen's Birthday Honours 2010 Wellington was appointed as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for "services to Ironman Triathlons". In December 2010, having previously awarded her the University's Sporting Achievement Award in 2007, the University of Birmingham granted her an honorary doctorate "as a tribute to her work in both her passions: sport and international development".

Famous quotes containing the word honours:

    Come hither, all ye empty things,
    Ye bubbles rais’d by breath of Kings;
    Who float upon the tide of state,
    Come hither, and behold your fate.
    Let pride be taught by this rebuke,
    How very mean a thing’s a Duke;
    From all his ill-got honours flung,
    Turn’d to that dirt from whence he sprung.
    Jonathan Swift (1667–1745)
