Personal Life
Sutton was born in Nottingham, the son of Mike Sutton, formerly a footballer with Norwich City. His younger brother John also became a footballer, and played for a number of clubs in both England and Scotland. As of February 2007, Sutton was married with five children.
After retiring from football, Sutton remained an athlete, playing cricket for Norwich Cricket Club in the EAPL.
