The history of Chinese people in the state of South Dakota when it was still part of the Dakota Territory mostly centered around the mining industry. According to the article, there is a legend that at one time, "... Deadwood had the largest Chinatown east of San Francisco." Due to a recent desire to uncover South Dakota's history, and how the Chinese have made their influence, South Dakota is sponsoring research to uncover this history.
