Chevrolet Camaro (fourth Generation) - 2002

2002

The final fourth-generation Camaro was built on 27 August 2002; total production for 2002 was 42,098. The Boisbriand plant, the only GM plant in Canada outside of Ontario, then closed down. In 2002, one special edition Camaro ZL1 was built, as an effective comeback to a snide comment from a newspaper reporter who made a comment that the age of big-block v-8 powerplants was dead. This ZL1 produced over 720 horsepower with a 592 cubic inch (9.4 liter) naturally aspirated v-8, paired with a 6 speed manual transmission. The vehicle was auctioned off in 2004 for slightly over $130,000.

GM's Performance Division unveiled a Z28 show vehicle at the 2002 Woodward Dream Cruise as send off for the Camaro's 35 year heritage. It emulated the 1960s and 1970s Penske-Sunoco stock TransAm race team vehicles.
