Simmons was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, the middle child of three (one younger brother and an older sister).
Simmons' boyfriend proposed to her on July 28, 2008, and the couple married on Sept. 6, 2009. Simmons resides in Vancouver. Simmons has two dogs, a yorki named Talula, and an adopted rescue puppy named Tibby.
