Chaucer College - The Chaucer Group and The Local Community

The Chaucer Group and The Local Community

The Chaucer College group is a registered charity. The Charities Act (2006) stipulates that registered charities should demonstrate “public benefit”. In accordance with this expectation, the College’s students engage in a variety of activities, including participation in local cultural festivals and an extensive community volunteering programme, details of which may be found on the College’s website. Open Days or Open Evenings are held regularly, and the Colleges also offer accommodation and conference facilities to other local organisations. Students also visit local schools as “cultural ambassadors” for Japan.

Famous quotes containing the words chaucer, group, local and/or community:

Thou saist that dropping houses and eek smoke
And chiding wives maken men to flee
Out of hir owene hous: a, benedicite,
What aileth swich an old man for to chide?
    —Geoffrey Chaucer (1340?–1400)

Instead of seeing society as a collection of clearly defined “interest groups,” society must be reconceptualized as a complex network of groups of interacting individuals whose membership and communication patterns are seldom confined to one such group alone.
    Diana Crane (b. 1933)

America is the world’s living myth. There’s no sense of wrong when you kill an American or blame America for some local disaster. This is our function, to be character types, to embody recurring themes that people can use to comfort themselves, justify themselves and so on. We’re here to accommodate. Whatever people need, we provide. A myth is a useful thing.
    Don Delillo (b. 1926)

when Mrs Kindhead comes to collect for the Community Chest
grab her and tell her There are unfavorable omens in the sky!
And when the mayor comes to get my vote tell him
When are you going to stop people killing whales!
    Gregory Corso (b. 1930)
