Charlie Soong died on May 3, 1918. The cause was believed to be stomach cancer. Neither Sun Yat-Sen nor the rest of the KMT showed any public mourning, as the clash over Ching-Ling was still fresh in the public memory.

Famous quotes containing the word death:

    I knew the poor,
    I knew the hideous death they die,
    when famine lays its bleak hand on the door;
    I knew the rich,
    sated with merriment,
    who yet are sad.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)

    A man that apprehends death no more dreadfully but as a drunken sleep, careless, reckless, and fearless of what’s past, present, or to come; insensible of mortality, and desperately mortal.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    When Death to either shall come—
    I pray it be first to me.
    Robert Bridges (1844–1930)
