Channel Islands Spotted Skunk

The Channel Islands spotted skunk, Santa Rosa Island spotted skunk, or island spotted skunk (Spilogale gracilis amphiala) is a subspecies of North American skunk about which little is known. It is native to just three islands off the coast of Southern California (Santa Rosa Island, Santa Cruz Island and San Miguel Island), and may be extinct on one (San Miguel). It is designated as a species of special concern by the state of California.

Famous quotes containing the words channel, spotted and/or skunk:

Eddie did not die. He is no longer on Channel 4, and our sets are tuned to Channel 4; he’s on Channel 7, but he’s still broadcasting. Physical incarnation is highly overrated; it is one corner of universal possibility.
    Marianne Williamson (b. 1953)

What the horrors of war are, no one can imagine. They are not wounds and blood and fever, spotted and low, or dysentery, chronic and acute, cold and heat and famine. They are intoxication, drunken brutality, demoralisation and disorder on the part of the inferior ... jealousies, meanness, indifference, selfish brutality on the part of the superior.
    Florence Nightingale (1820–1910)

    But he sent her Good-by,
    And said to be good,
    And wear her red hood,
    And look for skunk tracks
In the snow with an ax—
    And do everything!
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
