Chaldean Mafia - Ethnic Background

Ethnic Background

The Chaldean Mafia is composed of ethnic Assyrians (Known as Chaldo-Assyrians) who are predominantly followers of the Chaldean Catholic Church. Hence the term Chaldean Mafia.

Members of this community began to arrive in the United States from the end of the 19th Century to escape religious and ethnic persecution in both the Ottoman Empire and later Iraq and Iran, and this migratory process is ongoing to this day.

Assyrians are indigenous Mesopotamians, they speak dialects of Aramaic language and are almost exclusively Eastern Rite Christians of various denominations.
