Chadwell Heath Academy - Houses

Houses

The main school is split into six 'form classes'. Each student before arrival is placed into one class. The classes are as follows:

  • Austen - named after Jane Austen
  • Bronte - named after the Bronte Sisters
  • Elliot - named after T.S Elliot
  • Paton - named after Alan Paton
  • Orwell - named after George Orwell
  • Swift - named after Jonathon Swift

The form groups compete against each other during many school competitions including the inter-form tournament and annual quiz. There is also competition between the houses in each year group on effort grade standards and attendance.

Famous quotes containing the word houses:

These were such houses as the lumberers of Maine spend the winter in, in the wilderness ... the camps and the hovels for the cattle, hardly distinguishable, except that the latter had no chimney.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The spectacle of misery grew in its crushing volume. There seemed to be no end to the houses full of hunted starved children. Children with dysentery, children with scurvy, children at every stage of starvation.... We learned to know that the barometer of starvation was the number of children deserted in any community.
    Mary Heaton Vorse (1874–1966)

The name of the town isn’t important. It’s the one that’s just twenty-eight minutes from the big city. Twenty-three if you catch the morning express. It’s on a river and it’s got houses and stores and churches. And a main street. Nothing fancy like Broadway or Market, just plain Broadway. Drug, dry good, shoes. Those horrible little chain stores that breed like rabbits.
    Joseph L. Mankiewicz (1909–1993)
