Personal Life

Uygur was born and raised in a Sunni Muslim family, but is now a self-described "fervent agnostic". In 2010, along with Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Uygur accepted the "Emperor Has No Clothes Award" from the Freedom From Religion Foundation and later the Humanist Media Award from the American Humanist Association. He is married to Wendy Lang Uygur, a marriage and family therapist, who previously worked as a social worker and now runs her own practice. The Uygurs are the parents of one son, Prometheus Maximus Uygur, born July 2010, and a daughter, Joy Helena Uygur, born October 15, 2012.

Famous quotes related to personal life:

Wherever the State touches the personal life of the infant, the child, the youth, or the aged, helpless, defective in mind, body or moral nature, there the State enters ‘woman’s peculiar sphere,’ her sphere of motherly succor and training, her sphere of sympathetic and self-sacrificing ministration to individual lives.
    Anna Garlin Spencer (1851–1931)
