Cayuse People - Language

Language

The Cayuse language is a language isolate. It has been proposed in the past that it may be related to Molala, making up a Waiilaptuan family ultimately related to the Penutian stock. This proposal is currently unproven. The language has been extinct since the 19th century.

Famous quotes containing the word language:

When a language creates—as it does—a community within the present, it does so only by courtesy of a community between the present and the past.
    Christopher Ricks (b. 1933)

    Which I wish to remark—
    And my language is plain—
That for ways that are dark
And for tricks that are vain,
    The heathen Chinee is peculiar:
Which the same I would rise to explain.
    Bret Harte (1836–1902)

It’s not that we want the political jobs themselves ... but they seem to be the only language the men understand. We don’t really want these $200 a year jobs. But the average man doesn’t understand working for a cause.
    Jennie Carolyn Van Ness (b. c. 1890–?)
