Landscape

The valley of the river Obrecheuil is in the east of the village. This part of the valley is part of Natura 2000. The heart of the village is in the northwest higher part of the valley. The northwestern part of the village is a plain with dispersed houses and farms with typical hedges. The village is the border between the valley of the river The Haine (Elevation from 20 to 30m) and the plateau of Hainaut (elevation from 80 to 150 m).

Around the village, there are several woods (comprising oaks, beeches, chestnuts, and poplars), fields (comprising potatoes, sugar beets, corn, and wheat), and prairies (for cows and horses). The ground is made of sands and silts.

Famous quotes containing the word landscape:

The air was so elastic and crystalline that it had the same effect on the landscape that a glass has on a picture, to give it an ideal remoteness and perfection.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

When a shadow flits across the landscape of the soul where is the substance?
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

In contrast to the flux and muddle of life, art is clarity and enduring presence. In the stream of life, few things are perceived clearly because few things stay put. Every mood or emotion is mixed or diluted by contrary and extraneous elements. The clarity of art—the precise evocation of mood in the novel, or of summer twilight in a painting—is like waking to a bright landscape after a long fitful slumber, or the fragrance of chicken soup after a week of head cold.
    Yi-Fu Tuan (b. 1930)
