Carroll Hardy - Professional Football

Professional Football

A third-round pick in the 1955 NFL Draft, Hardy chose baseball over football after one year in the National Football League. He caught 12 passes – four for touchdowns – while he played halfback with the San Francisco 49ers in 1955, but his biggest claim to fame will always be related to baseball, even though he was named the Hula Bowl MVP that year.

As a 49er, he shared the field with Pro Football Hall of Famers Y.A. Tittle, Joe Perry and Hugh McElhenny.

Famous quotes containing the words professional and/or football:

The belief that there are final and immutable answers, and that the professional expert has them, is one that mothers and professionals tend to reinforce in each other. They both have a need to believe it. They both seem to agree, too, that if the professional’s prescription doesn’t work it is probably because of the mother’s inadequacy.
    Elaine Heffner (20th century)

In football they measure forty-yard sprints. Nobody runs forty yards in basketball. Maybe you run the ninety-four feet of the court; then you stop, not on a dime, but on Miss Liberty’s torch. In football you run over somebody’s face.
    Donald Hall (b. 1928)
