Originally known as the Carnivore Preservation Trust, the Carolina Tiger Rescue or CPT, is an animal sanctuary in Pittsboro, North Carolina. It is home to Binturongs, Caracals, Kinkajous, Ocelots, Servals, and Tigers.
The CPT was incorporated in 1981 by Dr. Michael Bleyman, a geneticist at UNC, as a breeding facility for carnivores that were vanishing keystone species — species critical to the survival of their ecosystem. CPT's intent was to keep a viable population of these animals in trust until their home habitats were sufficiently protected to support them again.

Famous quotes containing the words carolina, tiger and/or rescue:
“Poetry presents indivisible wholes of human consciousness, modified and ordered by the stringent requirements of form. Prose, aiming at a definite and concrete goal, generally suppresses everything inessential to its purpose; poetry, existing only to exhibit itself as an aesthetic object, aims only at completeness and perfection of form.”
—Richard Harter Fogle, U.S. critic, educator. The Imagery of Keats and Shelley, ch. 1, University of North Carolina Press (1949)
“As a tiger may lose its footing on soft ground, so people may be tripped up by sweet words.”
—Chinese proverb.
“It was his peculiar doctrine that a man has a perfect right to interfere by force with the slaveholder, in order to rescue the slave. I agree with him.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
