Famous quotes containing the words carol and/or merrill:

When you’re 50 you start thinking about things you haven’t thought about before. I used to think getting old was about vanity—but actually it’s about losing people you love. Getting wrinkles is trivial.
    —Joyce Carol Oates (b. 1938)

the sheets and towels of a life we were going to share,
The milk-stiff bibs, the shroud, each rag to be ever
Trampled or soiled, bled on or groped for blindly,
Came swooning out of an enormous willow hamper
    Onto moon-marbly boards.
    —James Merrill (b. 1926)
