History
Carlton Food Network launched as a weekday daytime cable-only channel in September 1996 on cable, sharing space with SelecTV, later Carlton Select. It launched on the ITV Digital/ONdigital service when that platform went on air in November 1998. It showcased the best of Carlton and other ITV companies cookery programmes, and later expanded to a full time service.
On 1 May 2001, Carlton Food Network was renamed as Taste CFN. However, it was only using this brand for a few months because the channel closed in November 2001, due to poor viewing figures and cost restrictions. On ITV Digital, it was anticipated that the slot was to be filled by a new channel on the now struggling platform, but the space became a preview channel for ITV Digital suppliers and potential customers.
The channel was similar to and would nowadays be Good Food, UKTV's successor to Carlton Food Network.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“The history of all Magazines shows plainly that those which have attained celebrity were indebted for it to articles similar in natureto Berenicealthough, I grant you, far superior in style and execution. I say similar in nature. You ask me in what does this nature consist? In the ludicrous heightened into the grotesque: the fearful coloured into the horrible: the witty exaggerated into the burlesque: the singular wrought out into the strange and mystical.”
—Edgar Allan Poe (18091849)
“While the Republic has already acquired a history world-wide, America is still unsettled and unexplored. Like the English in New Holland, we live only on the shores of a continent even yet, and hardly know where the rivers come from which float our navy.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Hence poetry is something more philosophic and of graver import than history, since its statements are rather of the nature of universals, whereas those of history are singulars.”
—Aristotle (384322 B.C.)
