Cape Valdivia

Cape Valdivia (Norwegian: Kapp Valdivia) is the northernmost point on Bouvet Island, a subantarctic island administered by Norway. It lies in the centre of the island's north coast, immediately to the north of Olav Peak, the island's highest point. To the west lies Cape Circoncision, from which Cape Valdivia is separated by a five kilometre stretch of coastline known as the Morgenstiern Coast.

The cape derives its name from the German survey ship Valdivia, which fixed the position of Bouvet island in 1898.

Famous quotes containing the word cape:

Wishing to get a better view than I had yet had of the ocean, which, we are told, covers more than two thirds of the globe, but of which a man who lives a few miles inland may never see any trace, more than of another world, I made a visit to Cape Cod.... But having come so fresh to the sea, I have got but little salted.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
