Cell Based Immunotherapy
Adoptive Cell based Immunotherapy was first introduced by Rosenberg and his Colleagues of NIH, USA and it is now widely being used in various countries. It involves isolation of either allogenic or autologous immune cells, enriching them outside the body and transfusing them back to the patient. The injected immune cells are highly cytotoxic to the Cancer cells thereby helping to fight the cancer cells. This therapy is in routine clinical practice in Japan and Autologous immune enhancement therapy involving Natural Killer Cells (NK) cells and cytotoxic T Lymphocytes(CTLs) is being practised in various Asian Countries especially in Japan and Malaysia . In addition, a method derived from the adoptive cell based therapy ideas begun by Rosenberg et al. called ALECSAT is currently undergoing phase I clinical trials in Denmark.

Famous quotes containing the words cell and/or based:
“Let man consider what he is in comparison with all existence; let him regard himself as lost in this remote corner of nature; and from the little cell in which he finds himself lodged, I mean the universe, let him estimate at their true value the earth, kingdoms, cities, and himself. What is a man in the infinite?”
—Blaise Pascal (16231662)
“I want relations which are not purely personal, based on purely personal qualities; but relations based upon some unanimous accord in truth or belief, and a harmony of purpose, rather than of personality. I am weary of personality.... Let us be easy and impersonal, not forever fingering over our own souls, and the souls of our acquaintances, but trying to create a new life, a new common life, a new complete tree of life from the roots that are within us.”
—D.H. (David Herbert)
