Canadian Special Operations Forces Command - Composition

Composition

CANSOFCOM is composed of:

  • Joint Task Force 2 (JTF2) – Dwyer Hill Training Centre, south of Ottawa, in process of moving to CFB Trenton
  • Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR) – CFB Petawawa
  • 427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron (427 SOAS) – CFB Petawawa
  • Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit (CJIRU) – CFB Kingston and Trenton

CANSOFCOM is capable of operating as an independent formation but its primary focus is to generate special operations forces (SOF) elements to support the Canadian Joint Operations Command. Integrating special operations forces in this manner increases their impact in operations, as well as the range of options available to the government in the deployment of the Canadian Forces.

Famous quotes containing the word composition:

Modern Western thought will pass into history and be incorporated in it, will have its influence and its place, just as our body will pass into the composition of grass, of sheep, of cutlets, and of men. We do not like that kind of immortality, but what is to be done about it?
    Alexander Herzen (1812–1870)

Vices enter into the composition of virtues as poisons into the composition of certain medicines. Prudence and common sense mix them together, and make excellent use of them against the misfortunes that attend human life.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

Give a scientist a problem and he will probably provide a solution; historians and sociologists, by contrast, can offer only opinions. Ask a dozen chemists the composition of an organic compound such as methane, and within a short time all twelve will have come up with the same solution of CH4. Ask, however, a dozen economists or sociologists to provide policies to reduce unemployment or the level of crime and twelve widely differing opinions are likely to be offered.
Derek Gjertsen, British scientist, author. Science and Philosophy: Past and Present, ch. 3, Penguin (1989)
