Opportunities For Older Boys
Becket offers specialty programs for older campers, such as the Construction cabins, for boys interested in carpentry and building skills, and the Adventure Odyssey cabin, for boys interested in rock climbing, bouldering, and backwoods, low-impact camping. In the Construction Cabin, the boys are supervised by an experienced foreman, as well as their counselors. One new structure is completed each season, currently new camper cabins in Pioneer village. The Adventure Odyssey is a new program as of summer 2009. It blends sport climbing using a ropes course, climbing tower, various top-roped chimneys on the property, and off-site climbing locations, with off-site camping and hiking. Campers spend four weeks living both outdoors and in a Ranger cabin. The focus of this program is group building and leave-no-trace camping techniques.

Famous quotes containing the words opportunities for, older and/or boys:
“The American adolescent, then, is faced, as are the adolescents of all countries who have entered or are entering the machine age, with the question: freedom from what and at what price? The American feels so rich in his opportunities for free expression that he often no longer knows what it is he is free from. Neither does he know where he is not free; he does not recognize his native autocrats when he sees them.”
—Erik H. Erikson (19041994)
“In time the scouring of wind and rain will wear down the ranges and plane off the region until it has the drab monotony of the older deserts. In the meantimea two-million-year meantimetravelers may enjoy the cruel beauties of a desert in its youth,....”
—For the State of California, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“We are not about to send American boys 9 or 10,000 miles away from home to do what Asian boys ought to be doing for themselves.”
—Lyndon Baines Johnson (19081973)
