California State Military Reserve - Members and Recruiting

Members and Recruiting

The force consists of citizens who possess a variety of skills, and many members are veterans of other branches of the United States Military as well as former members of the California Army and Air National Guard. They are considered uncompensated employees, and when called to emergency state active duty, they become compensated employees. The force is headquartered in Sacramento, CA. The CSMR is the state’s authorized militia. Unlike the Civil Air Patrol or the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, the CSMR is a statutory military entity of the state with each CSMR member subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) per CMVC § 560. All citizens who are not felons and possess a high school diploma are eligible, although military veterans and those with special skills which materially contribute to the CSMR mission are preferred.

Famous quotes containing the word members:

The members of a body-politic call it “the state” when it is passive, “the sovereign” when it is active, and a “power” when they compare it with others of its kind. Collectively they use the title “people,” and they refer to one another individually as “citizens” when speaking of their participation in the authority of the sovereign, and as “subjects” when speaking of their subordination to the laws of the state.
    Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712–1778)
