History
California Miramar University was established as Pacific Western University (PWU) in February 1977. Pacific Western University operated in Brentwood, California, a suburb of Los Angeles, for its first twenty years, then moved to the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, where it remained until relocating to San Diego in January 2006. The name change to California Miramar University happened in approximately March or April 2007.
According to a 2006 article in Inside Higher Education, the school changed its name because it was under new ownership and management, had changed location and wanted to emphasize that the new ownership no longer had any connection with PWU Hawaii. The article said that the school wanted to distance itself from past controversies and that it had filed for national accreditation. The university also made reference to a change in ownership and management on its website in 2007.
According to California Miramar University, CMU purchased the assets of Pacific Western University – California, including its State of California approval status, in 2005. To satisfy accreditation requirements, CMU later transferred all PWU - California institutional and student records to Education Services, which now serves as the official custodian of records.
The California Post-Secondary Education Commission and Distance Education and Training Council list CMU's date of establishment as 2005.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“Certainly there is not the fight recorded in Concord history, at least, if in the history of America, that will bear a moments comparison with this, whether for the numbers engaged in it, or for the patriotism and heroism displayed.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“History ... is, indeed, little more than the register of the crimes, follies, and misfortunes of mankind.
But what experience and history teach is thisthat peoples and governments have never learned anything from history, or acted on principles deduced from it.”
—Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (17701831)
“You that would judge me do not judge alone
This book or that, come to this hallowed place
Where my friends portraits hang and look thereon;
Irelands history in their lineaments trace;
Think where mans glory most begins and ends
And say my glory was I had such friends.”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
