Famous quotes containing the words california, courts and/or appeal:

    The apparent ease of California life is an illusion, and those who believe the illusion will live here in only the most temporary way.
    Joan Didion (b. 1935)

    But O, young beauty of the woods,
    Whom Nature courts with fruits and flowers,
    Gather the flowers, but spare the buds;
    Lest Flora, angry at thy crime
    To kill her infants in their prime,
    Do quickly make the example yours;
    And ere we see,
    Nip in the blossom all our hopes and thee.
    Andrew Marvell (1621–1678)

    The beginning of human knowledge is through the senses, and the fiction writer begins where human perception begins. He appeals through the senses, and you cannot appeal to the senses with abstractions.
    Flannery O’Connor (1925–1964)
