Preparation and Occurrence
Cadmium sulfate octohydrate can be prepared by the reaction of cadmium metal or its oxide or hydroxide with dilute sulfuric acid:
- CdO + H2SO4 → CdSO4 + H2O
- Cd + H2SO4 → CdSO4 + H2
The anhydrous material is prepared using sodium persulfate:
- Cd + Na2S2O8 → CdSO4 + Na2SO4
Cadmium sulfate is very rarely found naturally in a form of a tetrahydrate mineral called drobecite and as a basic salt in the mineral Niedermayrite. It is used as a pigment.

Famous quotes containing the words preparation and, preparation and/or occurrence:
“Its sad but true that if you focus your attention on housework and meal preparation and diapers, raising children does start to look like drudgery pretty quickly. On the other hand, if you see yourself as nothing less than your childs nurturer, role model, teacher, spiritual guide, and mentor, your days take on a very different cast.”
—Joyce Maynard (20th century)
“Living each day as a preparation for the next is an exciting way to live. Looking forward to something is much more fun than looking back at somethingand much more constructive. If we can prepare ourselves so that we never have to think, Oh, if I had only known, if I had only been ready, our lives can really be the great adventure we so passionately want them to be.”
—Hortense Odlum (1892?)
“One is absolutely sickened, not by the crimes that the wicked have committed, but by the punishments that the good have inflicted; and a community is infinitely more brutalised by the habitual employment of punishment than it is by the occasional occurrence of crime.”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
